ROCCA DEI CASTAGNOLI
Welcome to the heart of Chianti and to this large wine-producing estate with its excellent DOCG and Supertuscan wines.
The small village dates back to the late Middle Ages. Ancient documents referring to the sale of part of the estate can be traced back to the year 900. In 1203 it was annexed to Florentine territory and, following several attempts to re-conquer the village and Siena's definitive downfall, it finally became part of the grand duchy of Tuscany. A period of peace ensued when it was owned by a series of famous families, such as the Piccolomini, the Tempi and the Ricasoli who all showed the greatest dedication in caring for its vineyards and wine production. In recent years, important works of restoration have been carried out to the village and its wine cellars. Though production methods have been modernised, little has changed in the patient art of producing high-quality wines. The old wine cellar is open to visitors, a fascinating and ancient environment where the precious wines age in barrels and barriques.
Seven comfortable apartments, named after some of the elders who once lived there, and six delightful rooms, named after the ancient trades, have been skilfully built.
The private swimming pool, next to the owners' villa, can be used by guests on request.
