BAGLIO LAURIA This ancient Franciscan hermitage, formerly named the "Crocefisso" (crucifix), was purchased by the Lauria family in the second half of the 19th century, immediately following the unification of Italy. The 50 hectare estate, which originally cultivated grain and bred cattle, now includes vineyards, almond orchards and olive groves, and produces an excellent extra virgin olive oil. The centre of the estate, or "baglio", is a typical Sicilian construction with internal courtyard. It has been beautifully restored and converted into guest accommodation with swimming pool (6 x 12 m. - open June/Sept.), 6 rooms with en suite facilities. The rooms, dining room and sitting room, the swimming pool, are all delightfully furnished, in harmony with the wooden beams and stone walls. The estate is situated on a plateau, at an altitude of approx. 300 m., from which all the most important sites of southern Sicily are easily reached: Agrigento and the famous Valley of Temples 35kms, Licata with its beaches and Liberty style houses - 20kms, Campobello di Licata 9kms. Sea 20kms. Agrigento 35kms.
